1719 Arlington Court

Important!
Please read the directions start to finish first, and read ahead a
couple of steps when not on major highways. A lot of the steps are closer
together than they appear, and it can be difficult or impossible to simply
backtrack if you miss a turn! Also, I did try to generate a map using
Mapblast.com, but got a map for 1719 Arlington Avenue, which is obviously
incorrect.
I will be attempting a map which will be added to this page as soon as
possible. If you have any other questions regarding these directions,
please email mari@aspects.org.
From the Oakland Area (Via Bus):
- Get on the 54C from 5th Avenue. (54C and other bus
schedules)
- Take the 54C to Arlington Avenue at the top of 18th Street.
You'll pass the graveyard on the left, then Milcarek Garage on the left. The bus
stop is on the right at the Sunoco Station.
- Almost directly across 18th Street from the bus stop will be
Arlington Court. The Colony is the left half of the duplex that is the
second house on the left and has a gravel driveway.
From the Oakland Area (Via Car):
- Get onto Fifth Avenue heading inbound (towards downtown). *
Be in either the 2nd or 3rd lane from the bus lane (which is the far LEFT
lane)*.
- Once you are through the intersection of Fifth Avenue and
Craft Avenue and have past Carlow College, get into the LEFT lane.
- At the next traffic light, turn LEFT onto the Birmingham
Bridge.
- On the bridge, get in the RIGHT lane, and when another lane is added
move over to the new far RIGHT lane.
- At the end of the bridge, turn RIGHT onto Carson Street.
- Take Carson Street to 18th Street and turn LEFT onto
18th Street.*There will be a LEFT turn only lane at this
intersection, and a Bruegger's Bagels on the RIGHT*.
- 18th Street will go through two traffic lights, and then after
the next block under a train overpass and bends sharply to the RIGHT.
- At the 'Y' intersection, continue following 18th Street, which
is the RIGHT arm of the 'Y'.
- You will go through another traffic light and a number of bends in
the road.
- Just past a cemetary on your left, there will be a garage called
Milcarek Auto and South Side Glass Company on the left and a small street
on the RIGHT.
- Between Milcarek and South Side Glass, and directly across from the
Sunoco, will be Arlington Court.
- There is no parking on Arlington Court, but you can park
on the small street across from Milcarek, in the bank parking lot at the corner of 18th
Street and Arlington Avenue at the traffic light, and at
metered spaces on Brownsville Road (which is what 18th
Street becomes at Arlington Avenue).
From Points West:
- Take 70 E to the 470 E bypass. 470 E will
deposit you back onto 70 E around Wheeling, W. VA.
- Continue on 70 E to the exit for 79 N towards
Washington, PA.
- Pick up with directions below "From Points South".
From Points South:
- Take 79 N until you see signs for a RIGHT lane exit only for
279 N towards Pittsburgh.
- Take 279 N past the Runaway Truck Sand Pile. Past the sand
pile, two lanes will be added before the Fort Pitt Tunnels.
- Carefully move over to the far RIGHT lane and take exit 7A for Truck
19 S and 51 S towards Uniontown.
- Merge onto 51 S and go through two traffic lights. Immediately
after the second light, get into the LEFT lane, and at the third traffic
light turn LEFT onto Warrington Avenue.
- Take Warrington Avenue up over the hill, and through several
traffic lights.
- Past the "T" South Hills Junction, trolley tracks will start and
you'll go straight through three traffic lights.
- Just past the Warrington Beer and Beverage Center will be the fourth
light at which you turn RIGHT onto Arlington Avenue. * There will be a Dairy Mart directly ahead and a Hostel on the right at the light*.
- Follow Arlington Avenue up over the to the next traffic light
and turn LEFT onto 18th Street.
- The next immediate RIGHT between the empty small business/South Side
Glass and Milcarek Auto is Arlington Court. There is no parking
on Arlington Court, however, you can park at the bank across Arlington Avenue from Johno's Art Studio, at metered spaces on Brownsville Road (which is
what 18th Street becomes on the other side of Arlington
Avenue), or on the little side road across from Milcarek Auto and next
to the Sunoco gas station.
